Lesser Goldfinch males come in two forms; in the Western half of their range they have a black cap, green back, yellow belly and a white patch on the wings. In the Eastern half of their range are black above, yellow below and have a whitish patch on the wings. Females in all ranges are greenish above, yellow below and black wings with white patches seen while flying. Lesser Goldfinches are seen year-round throughout the Southwest and as far north as Washington and East into most of Texas. Will frequent feeders supplying them with Black Oil Sunflower, Sunflower Hearts and Nyjer® Thistle.
